Work and Education

I love the Norwegiens style of work. Kind of laid back-ish yet effective.

I feel it somehow reflects on the maturity of their society in general. There is no real 'rank' play between co workers.

They have lunch together everyday. Spread on the table and everyone just comes in at 12 to have lunch. And every Friday they take turns cooking lunch and bringing it to work.

BUT they dont sleep during working hours. In Sg its normal to take naps in lieu of lunching out but here its frowned upon. It reflects on your work ethics? as a colleague said.

Its always an eye opener to live in another culture. I look forward to his learning oppurtunity, not just work-wise but perhaps something that can be applied in life.

Now this, is what I call education.

An Act?

Your ibadah, is between you and God only.

Publicizing just makes it look like an act, but that's just me.
Maybe you aim to inspire?
I do not know.
Forgive me for judging, but im only human.

Updates

Aug 2011.

Seems like the end of the year is upon us again. Been a year since I joined the current company and it does seem like the 1st day was yesterday. Will be promoted soon, yay! That means more $ and well, overtime.

Overtime. When love and hate collide. I treasure my time, but i love money too.. so its like.. acam ni sekarang?

I mean i gotta overtime like crazy from now on. I've got quite a bit planned for 2012. Divin' the great barrier reef and jumpin' outta plane. Plus the family be planning to get a maid since nenek's staying with us now =) . And sister's taking a $10K degree per year in Psychology so financial commitments is like.. so banyak siak.

And this year I got my Advanced Open Water Dive license. I went round Msia on my 125cc bike, which a few years back, i honestly thought was quite impossible. Well we have Mr Izwan to thank for making the 'impossible' a reality.

Made quite a few wonderful Msian friends, made possible with the sweet Ms Dipz. She says she's not sweet, but i beg to differ~

Now I'm trying to squeeze in Kinabalu end of the year !

Love life.. WHR GOT TIME BERROHH!! =)

Adventures

An adventure's only an adventure when there is a risk of dying. For in the midst of danger is where you're truly alive.

Lest I forget

Life's an adventure. This is on my to-do list.

-skydive
-skydive without a parachute on
-dive at the great barrier reef
-meet sharks while diving
-climb kinabalu
-climb everest

Sometimes life gets busy and you get sidetracked. This is just a list to remind myself..

Lest i forget.

Story of the maid

From an email.

I need your urgent advice about employing a maid. As a busy parent, I need someone reliable to help out at home.

My maid is from Profits Agency Pte (PAP) and she has worked for me for a long time. Her mother worked for my parents and did an excellent job, so I had faith in her. For several years her performance has been very good, but recently she has become arrogant and insensitive, and is making lots of mistakes.

For example:
1) She flooded my kitchen – she told me that the drain pipe has blocked (she was supposed to clear it once a month but didn’t). Then she assured me that it is very rare and won’t happen again in the near future. Guess what? It flooded again within a year!
2) She didn’t close a window and my terrier dog escaped. I was so worried cos he is dangerous and could bite lots of people. After the incident, she didn’t apologise and just shrugged her shoulders saying “What to do, it has happened.” Fortunately my neighbor found the dog and we locked it up again.
3) Without consulting me, she has been bringing in strangers for my house's maintenance work. She says they charge low wages and keep costs down, but they eat my food, make a lot of noise and rest on my bed. I think they even tried to seduce my husband. It stopped feeling like my home, more like a cheap hotel, and I don’t always want to come back at the end of the day.
4) When she first came to work for me, I instructed her to clean the different parts of the house at least once a week. But for some time she has stopped taking care of the bedrooms of PP and H; they are now dirty and messy. I asked why and she told me that the kids had been disobedient, so she was neglecting their bedrooms as a punishment (she has forgotten that she is paid to clean all the rooms).

Even though my maid has worked for me for many years and I value what she has done in the past, I think she is now getting complacent. Her attitude is imperious and dismissive. She ignores my comments and basically treats my feedback as "noise". I wrote to the agency about her behavior; they assured me that they are the best agency around and all their maids are “Commited to Serve” – but I think it is just rhetoric and I don’t see that in her actions. Her salary is much higher than maids in other countries, but the agency say this is to keep her honest and stop her moving to another employer. They say there is a limited supply of maids, and Singapore isn’t big enough for more than one good maid agency, so I should not trust their competitors.

I have to decide whether to renew my maid’s 5-year employment contract. When we discussed this she said that she is now part of a team, and if I want her I must also accept her friends doing part-time work for me. One friend is very inexperienced, can't do basic tasks or explain what she intends to do. I suspect that she is actually underage. When interviewed, she only seemed interested in her days-off and visiting Universal Studios. When she couldn't answer my questions she stomped her foot and exclaimed, "I don't know what to say!" But I am still expected to pay her a high salary.

Now there happen to be a few other maid agencies - Workhard Pte (WP), New Solutions Pte (NSP), Super Personnel Pte (SPP) and Star Domestica Pte (SDP) - that offered me some helpers who seem sincere, genuine and intelligent. They are keen to work, willing to assist me and have a good attitude. I know that they may take a bit of time to learn how everything works, but frankly I am inclined to give them a chance.

People say that the devil you know is better than one you don’t. But I feel that I can’t tahan my current maid anymore. Do you think I should sack my current maid and try out a new one? Appreciate your advice.

Perfection and Choice

The was a time when i found my perfect girl, alas, i wasnt her perfect guy.

That Gray Area

Sometimes you just have to settle and be thankful.

'When life throws you lemons, make lemonade.'

Fuck it.

When life throws u lemons, pick it up and throw it right back!

Life is the grey area. Pick your battles. Some thinga are worth fighting for, some things.. You're NOT WORTHY of.

Pursuit of Happyness

Pretending to happy is not being truly happy.

You're just consoling yourself by lying. Accept some things as they are, know that you can make things better with hard work and effort, then enjoybthe fruits of your labor, and then be truly happy.

Menteri Bangsat

Jual bangsa sendiri, melayu takde pendirian, ade hati jadi menteri. Buat malu.

Besok jual agama? Anak bini jual sekali lah.

Mind of a woman.

When a woman complains she is fat, i have this underlying feeling that she's just fishing for compliments.

To make herself feel better, to .. Hmm how shall i put it?

To seek approval maybe? For the current state she's in?

Anyway you wanna lose those kilos, here's some tips.

No macdonalds. That junk station is a one way ticket to fatty land.

Eat healthy. And exercise.

Exercise is not 2 rounds then stopping when u feel tired. Exercise is pushing your limits, setting the bar higher everytime you do it.

And yes, the fat chick who has a positive outlook on life is prettier than the skinny bitch who complains she's fat.

'She may be fat, but you're ugly and she can diet.'

=)

On Running, Again.

I honestly think some 'runners' are a bunch of idiots.

Simple rule, 'If you cant keep the pace, keep to the left.'

And start at the back pls. Barely 400m into the run and i encounter people walking.

Zzzzzzz.

Runs

Running is life. You have a vague destination, but you take one step a time. Sometimes you need to slow down, sometimes you need to raise your pace a notch.

Sometimes it gets too tiring, so stop. Enjoy the surroundings~

And when the end is near, run towards it with a smile, for you have to finish no matter what. Embrace death~
